Michael C. Hearn
Michael Hearn is a Founding Partner, the President and an Investment Officer for Genesee Capital Advisors. His investment perspective and commitment to client service have been shaped by a wide spectrum of understanding and knowledge gained over the past three decades.
A native of Auburn, N.Y., Mike is a graduate of Binghamton University. He has also completed coursework at Cornell University, the University of Maryland, and the New York Institute of Finance.
Mike’s professional experience included positions within the public and private sectors, both internationally and domestically. After completing his undergraduate studies, he accepted a position with the International Rescue Committee (“IRC”) in the country of Thailand. IRC was contracted by the U.S. State Department to assist with the resettlement of thousands of Indochinese refugees, i.e. Cambodian, Lao, Vietnamese, and Hill Tribe, who fled the dangers of their home countries for the safety offered by Thai refugee camps. The administrative, logistic, and managerial challenges over his four years with IRC were enormous, as were the rewards.
Returning home in the mid-1980’s, the U.S. Congress provided Mike with his next professional opportunity. As a Foreign Affairs Legislative Assistant, he wrote speeches, drafted legislation, conducted research, and negotiated with foreign and domestic parties on a wide variety of issues.
The private sector, particularly the financial industry, was always of great interest to Mike. In 1986, he moved to New York City to accept a position as an international banker with Manufacturers Hanover Trust. After extensive training, he was given responsibility for business development with the largest financial institutions in Asia. His accomplishments were recognized and rewarded in several ways, but most memorably by his recruitment by the Wall Street headquarters of Merrill Lynch. As an Asia-Pacific regional analyst, Mike was able to tie together his international interests and his love of finance.
The opportunity to serve as a financial advisor/portfolio manager was presented to Mike in the mid-1990. Combining the experience and expertise gathered over many years of hard work for the benefit of his clients has been, and continues to be of great personal satisfaction.
